Artist Statement: This project was BY FAR the hardest project I have ever done in my life! I have never used clay before and it is super tricky to not crack it and keeping it wet. As you can see I failed at keeping it from cracking but, I figured I'd just use it to my advantage since the box is already an ancient theme. I chose a Greece themed box because we had to make a box representing the item inside. I picked my moms Greece gold she got from Greece and I really want to make her something meaningful for Christmas! I chose a bunch of different Greece symbols like that represent the gods. A peacock feather for Hermia, rose for Aphrodite, bull for Zeus, and Athena's shield with Medusa's head.Lastly, I carved alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and the Greek meaning for, "my hero". I fired it in the kiln and painted it gold and red to represent Greece colors. I'm happy with this project for working with clay for the first time, and I know next time will be better!
